"What do I wear?" is the question I get more than any other. The honest answer is that there's no single right outfit for a boudoir session. What matters is that what you bring makes you feel something when you put it on. Confident, soft, powerful, playful, whatever that looks like for you, that's what we build the session around.

Here's a practical breakdown of what actually works, based on hundreds of sessions.

Lingerie Is a Starting Point, Not a Requirement

Lingerie sets, bodysuits, corsets, and lace are boudoir staples for a reason. They're versatile, they photograph well, and they give us a lot to work with in terms of posing and lighting. But you don't need to spend a lot to get a great result. A well-fitted two-piece from a mall store photographs just as well as something designer. Fit matters far more than price.

That said, lingerie is one option among several, not a requirement. If it's not your thing, we'll build your session around what is.

What to Wear Beyond Lingerie

Some of the strongest images I've taken have nothing to do with lingerie at all:

An oversized button-down shirt
A silk or satin robe
An oversized blazer worn with nothing underneath
A favorite band or sports tee
Jeans with nothing else

These tend to feel personal in a way that store-bought lingerie sometimes doesn't, especially if the piece has some meaning behind it. A shirt that belonged to someone, a jersey from your college team, your wedding dress if you're doing bridal boudoir. Pieces with a story photograph with more weight.

How Many Outfits to Bring

Plan on bringing three to five outfit options. We won't use all of them, but having a range gives us room to adjust once we see how the light and your comfort level are working together on the day. I'll help you narrow it down during your session, so don't stress about picking the "perfect" outfits ahead of time.

A good spread looks like:

One classic lingerie set
One non-lingerie option (button-down, robe, sweater)
One with more coverage for the beginning of the session, when nerves tend to be highest
One sentimental piece, if you have one

Mixing Coverage Levels

Variety in coverage creates variety in the final gallery. If every outfit has the same amount of skin showing, every image starts to look similar. Mixing something more covered with something more revealing gives us a wider range to choose from at your reveal, and it also gives you an easy way to ease into the session instead of starting with your most exposed option.

Don't Forget Shoes

Heels, boots, even a great pair of socks, shoes do more for a pose than people expect. They change your posture, elongate your line, and give your hands and feet something to do in a pose. Bring at least one pair even if you don't think you'll use them.

What About Nude or Implied Nude

This is completely valid, and it's something we handle with the same intention and direction as everything else. If it's on your mind, bring it up during your consultation so we can talk through what that looks like and make sure you're comfortable with the plan before your session day.

A Few Practical Notes

Steam or iron anything with wrinkles the night before. Wrinkled fabric shows up more than you'd expect in photos.
Bring nude or seamless undergarments as backups, even for outfits you don't plan to wear underneath.
If a piece has tags on it, remove them beforehand so you're not doing that at the studio.
Bring your outfits on hangers if you can. It keeps things organized and wrinkle-free on the way in.
