What to Do the Night Before Your Boudoir Shoot

Your session is tomorrow, and the mix of excitement and nerves is probably louder tonight than it's been at any other point since you booked. That's normal. Here's exactly how to spend tonight so tomorrow morning starts calm instead of chaotic.

Lay everything out

Pull every outfit, robe, pair of heels, and accessory you're bringing and lay it all out, or better, separate each look into its own bag. This single step removes almost all of the morning-of scramble. You want tomorrow's only job to be getting dressed and driving over, not hunting for a matching earring at 8am.

Wash your hair, if your hair type calls for it

Depending on your hair, either wash it tonight so it has time to settle into its natural texture, or plan to wash it first thing in the morning if your hair looks best freshly clean. There's no universal right answer here. Go with whatever your hair typically does best on.

Do your normal skincare routine, nothing new

Tonight is not the night to try a new serum, a new mask, or a new product you saw recommended somewhere. Skin can react in ways you don't want to be dealing with the next morning. Stick to whatever your face already knows and trusts.

Manicure, if you're doing one

If you haven't already gotten your nails done earlier in the week, tonight is the last reasonable window. Hands show up in more frames than people expect.

Stretch a little

A few minutes of stretching through your back and legs the night before makes a real difference the next day. Boudoir posing involves more arching and holding than most people anticipate, and a body that's already a little warmed up moves more naturally in front of the camera.

Eat a real dinner

Don't skip a meal tonight thinking it'll help you look better tomorrow. It won't. It'll just leave you tired and flat-feeling for a session that asks a lot of your energy. Eat normally.

Set a reasonable bedtime, and then actually go to bed

This sounds obvious, and it's the one most people skip. Overthinking the session late into the night tends to manufacture nerves that weren't really there earlier in the day. A full night of sleep does more for how you look and feel tomorrow than almost anything else on this list.

Say your reason out loud

Before you turn off the light, take thirty seconds and say, out loud or just to yourself, why you're doing this. Whatever the reason is. It doesn't need to be profound. Naming it tends to quiet the noise in your head more than people expect, and it's a good thing to be sitting with as you fall asleep.

Tomorrow, all that's left is showing up. [See the full session day walkthrough here.]
